Sore feet can severely limit our ability to participate fully in activities and even get around pain-free.
Health conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, circulatory issues, diabetes, dementia, and everyday limitations that naturally come with aging can make personal foot care difficult, if not impossible to maintain.
Foot issues can quickly escalate, causing a lot of discomfort, pain and potentially requires medical intervention.
And senior citizens are most at risk.
Regular foot care and maintenance by One Step Foot Care nurses help keep feet healthy, reducing pain and improving overall quality of life. We identify and treat foot issues before they escalate and refer clients to other health care professionals if there’s a need for more specialized care or treatment.
Each of our clients is treated as the most important person we’ll see all day. Because they are!
We work with the nursing staff at each residence to find the best days and times to attend to seniors on-site. Our team of advanced foot care nurses attend each residence for as long as needed and provide each service with a personal, compassionate touch.
One Step Foot Care nurses have the experience and advanced training techniques to deliver the highest quality of foot care. Our nurses hold current licenses with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as well as certificates for Advanced Foot Care.
One Step Foot Care staff all utilize the most current tools and techniques to deliver the best care possible.
One Step Foot Care staff follow the highest standards of practice as outlined by provincial and federal nursing regulations and adhere strictly to Sterilization Techniques and Infection Control practices as per Health Canada Guidelines.
All equipment used during foot care procedures is properly sterilized and maintained.
“One Step Foot Care has been attending Summerland Seniors Village to perform foot care on my 98 year old mother every 6-8 weeks. My mother just loves Kaarina’s visits and how wonderful her feet feel when her treatment is over – we still have this service performed even though my Mom is in a wheelchair; she also gets her nails manicured at the same time.
Kaarina’s service is a very important part of my mother’s care and she loves her visit very much. We are so fortunate to have such a caring and trusting person to perform this function on my Mom.” “
– Joan, Penticton
Our nurses have had extensive nursing experience in other disciplines prior to becoming a foot care nurse. They’ve chosen to specialize in foot care, and specifically foot care for seniors, because they’ve seen the difference excellent foot care makes to every individual’s quality of life.
We are experienced in working with clients with all ranges of mobility and neurodiversity and are able to adjust our foot care methods and treatment styles to suit the unique needs of each senior client. It makes us SO happy to connect with individuals who aren’t capable of caring for themselves.
Kaarina started her nursing career in 2000, with a focus in Geriatric Care. While working at an acute care facility in Vancouver, Kaarina noticed that when the podiatrist came to visit, patients were lined up in the hallway, waiting their turn for foot care with little dignity and comfort. And so, she set out to do things differently. In 2010, Kaarina became an Advanced Foot Care Nurse and launched One Step Foot Care, rapidly growing the company to be Okanagan Valley’s premier foot care nurse specialists (the largest provider of coordinated Nursing Foot Care in British Columbia).
Driven to help other nursing professionals, Kaarina began teaching Advanced Foot Care courses in 2017. And in 2021 she partnered with Foot Canada Training to become a licensed education provider. She continues to educate nurses across BC, helping develop their skills and launch their new careers as Foot Care Nurses.
